Challenge the First!

To get us up and running, for the first three months we'll be holding an exciting Standing O Contest! Here's how it works:

Users get "standing ovation" points for submitting various types of content to the8r.com. The actual numbers range from one standing ovation (for commenting on someone else's post), two standing ovations for community activities like starting a new forum topic or creating a blog entry or adding a glossary word, and three standing ovations for adding serious content to our database--adding shows, theater companies, stars, songs, audio clips, video clips and other resources. If you refer someone else to join, you'll also get a number of points based on the amount of points THEY earn. (Um, you can also GIVE some of your Standing Ovation points to other users, but if you wanna WIN a contest by getting points that might not be the best way to do it, huh?)

So sometime in the evening on August 31st, we'll be resetting everyone's standing ovation points to zero. On September 1st, start posting stuff like mad! You gotta month! On the early morning of September 30th we'll shut down the standing ovations and count. The user with the MOST POINTS will have their pick of one of three fabulous prize pools!

But wait! The madness doesn't stop there! Late evening on September 30th we'll reset everyone's points back to zero, and the craziness will continue for ANOTHER month! Post like mad from October 1st to the early morning of the 31st, when we'll shut it off and recount AGAIN. THAT winner gets their pick from the remaining two prize pools. And THEN we open it up one more time for the month of November!

Fair warning, though: anything posted can be moderated by your fellow users and co-stars. If you start posting a gazillion one-word comments or garbage pages just to up your score, smart people will flag them for moderation. They'll be taken down, and consequently they won't count. So remember: keep it quality, and keep it theater!
